US-based cannabis packaging solutions provider Sana Packaging has introduced a new line of 100% reclaimed ocean plastic products in partnership with Oceanworks.
The packaging firm shipped its first orders of 100% reclaimed ocean plastic packaging to customers in North America.
Sana Packaging co-founder and CEO Ron Basak-Smith said: “We’re really excited about our new product line. With the help of our customers, our first run of reclaimed ocean plastic cannabis packaging removed 4t of plastic waste from our oceans.
“We’re excited to see how much plastic waste we can continue to remove from our oceans moving forward. And, of course, none of this would be possible without the folks over at Oceanworks.”
The packaging firm uses 100% plant-based and chemical-free hemp plastic to create its flagship product line.
Sana Packaging stated that cannabis packaging waste is making headlines and six of the ten states with recreational cannabis are coastal states.

By GlobalDataEstablished in 2016, Oceanworks, in partnership with its collection and processing agents, aims to remove plastic waste from oceans.
According to the Oceanworks website, eight million metric tonnes of plastic enter the oceans annually. These can be recycled to significantly cut down the use of virgin plastic material. Recovered ocean plastic can replace almost any plastic product currently manufactured.
Oceanworks Marketplace was created to link the business community with verified sources of ocean plastic material collected around the world.
