Corrugated packaging company Smurfit Kappa has launched new Bag-in-Box service to enhance boxed wines’ shelf-life.

The SmartLife service brings filling-performance diagnostics and practical training together to find improvements areas in the supply chain.

The diagnostic process will, in turn, extend the Bag-in-Box wines’ shelf-life.

Smurfit Kappa Bag-in-Box scientific director Patrick Vuchot said: “We have capitalised on our 40 years of expertise as a market leader in Bag-in-Box solutions to create SmartLife.

“There are eight key parameters and multiple combinations of them that determine wine shelf-life throughout the supply chain process.

“Our SmartLife service uses these parameters to determine how we can contribute to increasing Bag-in-Box shelf-life, wine quality and ultimately sales.”

The SmartLife process consists of three steps. The company will initially identify problems within the supply chain and the causes of inadequate shelf-life for Bag-in-Box wines, as well as possible improvements.

SmartLife experts will then offer basic or complete diagnostics of the filling process to study the critical points where shelf-life can be improved efficiently.

Smurfit Kappa and wine packaging firm Vitop will also conduct Bag-in-Box science seminars for parties interested in extending their technical knowledge of the Bag-in-Box and Pouch-Up packaging solution range.

The service is expected to strengthen Smurfit Kappa’s position in Europe and the Americas.

Last month, Smurfit Kappa launched a new Bag-in-Box packaging suitable for hand sanitiser for end consumers, which will be obtainable in different sizes from 1.5l to 20l.
