Industrial paper cores and tubes manufacturer Sonoco Alcore has opened its third Russian manufacturing plant in Schekino, Tula.
Built on a 7,500m² area, the new plant will help the company to more than double its production capacity in sectors such as film and metal.
According to the company, approximately €3.2m has been invested into the development of the plant that has an annual production capacity of 17,000t.
The new plant site is connected with the company’s technology centre in Finland and developed to optimise cores of diameters from 50mm to 640m for any application.
The plant uses recycled fibre, recyclable glue and alcohol-based inks to produce eco-friendly packaging products.
Sonoco Alcore ICD Europe sales director Karsten Kemmerling said that the tube and core market in Russia is estimated to be around 100,000t annually with 4% year-on-year growth, representing an opportunity for the company.
