Sustainable solutions provider SORBOS and foodservice broker Green Nature Marketing have partnered for the US debut of the former’s edible straw.
As part of this partnership, SORBOS will offer its eco-friendly edible straws as a limited-time offer at Tropical Smoothie Café.
The straws will be available at the fast-casual café concept starting 11 November 2020.
With this, the café has become the first restaurant franchise system to offer SORBOS straws in the US.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe menu strategy and innovation VP Alice Crowder said: “We’re excited to feature these straws with our special cranberry smoothies available all holiday season.
“Our brand is all about sharing flavour and fun, and these straws contribute both to our smoothie experience.”

By GlobalDataThe edible flavoured and 100% biodegradable straw is capable of staying rigid for up to 40 minutes in cold and frozen beverages. Each straw is packaged individually.
SORBOS is the first company to produce such straws that serve as an alternative to single use plastic.
Green Nature Marketing vice-president Nick Dionne said: “SORBOS straws represent an easy way for operators to incorporate something fun and exciting into their product offering, while also enhancing their image by reducing usage of single-use plastics.”
SORBOS produces and packed its straws in Barcelona Spain by SORBO.
The company offers a fully biodegradable, sustainable, edible solution to single-use plastic straws. In September this year, Ribena trialled 100% recyclable paper straws on their cartons, in Tesco stores only to reduce plastic usage.
