South Mill Champs (SMC), a mushroom grower and supplier in North America, has collaborated with Sprouts Farmers Market in Denver, Colorado, US, to launch flow-wrapped bamboo tills for its mushroom products.
This partnership marks the first instance of Sprouts stocking SMC’s mushrooms in this new eco-friendly packaging format.

The new 8oz flow-wrapped bamboo tills are set to be available in Sprouts stores starting this month.
The packaging employs flow wrap made from biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film, combined with bamboo tills, which present multiple benefits compared to conventional plastic mushroom packaging.
The BOPP film features perforations that facilitate natural evaporation, which helps to maintain product quality, extend shelf life, and prevent discoloration caused by condensation, thereby reducing spoilage risks associated with excess moisture.
Furthermore, the flow wrap technology is designed to minimise material waste by ensuring the film is accurately cut to fit each product.
In contrast to traditional plastic packaging, the bamboo tills are both recyclable and biodegradable, according to the company.

Bamboo is a sustainable resource that requires less water than trees and can be harvested sustainably.
The bamboo tills are naturally heat resistant, have low moisture absorption, and are produced without chemical coatings or fossil fuels.
This initiative aligns with South Mill Champs’ commitment to responsible nourishment by seeking packaging alternatives that reduce reliance on heavy plastics.
