Sun Chemical has launched the new SolarFlex LED range of UV-LED flexo, four-colour process inks that can be used for surface printing on flexible films and labels of migration-compliant food packages.
The new solution is based on SolarVerse, Sun Chemical’s highly pigmented, low-viscosity, multipurpose UV flexo concentrate range.
SolarFlex LED contains patented M-Cure photoinitiators that enable rapid curing at high-press speeds.
The ink is also said to comply with food, pharmaceutical, tobacco and cosmetics packaging regulations.
Due to low viscosity and unparalleled flow, SolarFlex LED offers better printability and ink transfer with low foaming to ensure a consistent press performance.
The process inks come with a surface print LED curing flexo opaque white to allow high-quality transparent labels and flexible packaging.

By GlobalDataSun Chemical ECP Packaging and Narrow Web Labels, Europe, product manager Mark Walkling said: “In the past, converting from standard UV flexo technology to food packaging compliant inks has meant compromising on print quality and adhesion.
“The modern technology built into SolarFlex LED is based on the same SolarVerse concentrates at the same levels as used in other UV Flexo inks from Sun Chemical meaning no change in colour standards, no change in aniloxes and no change in colour matched formulations.”
The new solution was introduced at Labelexpo Europe 2017, where Sun Chemical also unveiled a new range of digital coatings for the label and packaging markets.
