US-based packaging company TekniPlex Consumer Products has introduced a line of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) processor trays designed to address common packaging challenges in the poultry industry.
The company’s PET Processor Trays are made from 100% PET and contain up to 50% post-industrial recycled content.
The fully recyclable trays are shatter-resistant even at extreme temperatures, which minimises breakage, product loss, leaks and safety risk recalls.
During a year-long production campaign, the solution was tested with a poultry processor and found to provide ‘outstanding’ protection, as it did not crack or break at any point in the supply chain.
TekniPlex vice-president and general manager Jay Arnold said: “We are continuing to expand our overall material and product offerings to include more eco-minded solutions as our customers and their commitment to sustainability continue to drive industry-wide change.
“PET is the most widely recycled and favourably viewed plastic in the eyes of the public, making it a great option to help our customers meet their goals.

By GlobalData“Our customers are looking for certain characteristics in next-generation solutions for the fresh foods industry.
“As their needs evolve, and consumer preferences shift, we’re excited to offer more solutions that align with our customers’ business goals for quality, efficiency, and more.”
Tekni-Plex’s PET Processor Trays use a patented technique called Hidden Rim Technology, which prevents the tearing of overwrap film to deliver shipping efficiencies.
Because the trays can be packed more densely, customers can ship more trays in each vehicle, reducing the number of dispatches.
The trays are available in transparent, translucent and opaque designs, with the transparent and translucent designs being widely recyclable across the US.
Tekni-Plex said that it is developing other tray sizes and colours to meet its customers’ needs.
Earlier this year, the company purchased the assets and licensed technologies of packaging company Fibro.
