Israel-based masterbatch specialist Tosaf Color Service has developed and introduced a new masterbatch carrier system for food contact applications.
The company said that any colour or combination of the masterbatches that are based on this newly developed carrier system can be used for a wide range of applications across continents.
Some of the main applications include household items, toys, components for machinery and for pieces of equipment used in the food processing industry.
The masterbatch carrier system can also be used for making translucent, opaque, rigid and flexible packaging.
Tosaf Color Service product manager Rudolf Reinhart said: “Our new carrier system has a very similar structure to our previous standard and is therefore just as compatible with the thermoplastics used in these applications.
“It also has virtually identical mechanical and processing characteristics, such as good suitability for even sparingly dispersible products.

By GlobalData“This has been confirmed by all preliminary testing of the carrier system carried out in-house and at Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid and by pilot masterbatch applications at customers. The key difference is that it does not contain potentially harmful chemical substances that could migrate into foodstuffs.”
The carrier system adheres to all the universally applicable common food contact requirements.
It is in compliance with recommendations from the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, as well as with the complex regulatory specifications of the US Food and Drug Administration and China’s Food Safety Law.
In addition, Tosaf Color Service informed that this Universal Food carrier system is based on a product that has already received various necessary approvals from associated plastics additive manufacturers.
Tosaf Color Service sales manager Andreas Kruschinski added: “Changing over from masterbatches using the previous system to ones using the new system intended for food applications is extremely simple, as the properties are the same and the colour remains unchanged.
“This allows manufacturers and processors to bring new products to market more quickly and to open up new markets for existing products. Masterbatches based on our existing carrier system remain available for all other applications.”
