UK-based packaging manufacturer Coveris has announced plans to increase the capacity of its cartonboard division.

The proposed £3m investment is also expected to boost the division’s production efficiency, modernise existing facilities, and support the company's expansion.

Coveris’ cartonboard division, which currently has three sites in Cambridgeshire, UK, is set to receive new equipment and staff training programmes this year.

Coveris paper division operations director Michael Marshall said: “The announcement of the investment plan for our board division marks an exciting time for Coveris.

"Long-term, these investments demonstrate our commitment to continue as a leading and innovative supplier of board packaging to the food industry."

“From site modernisation to installation of new machinery and staff training, the investment plan encompasses the whole board business. Our immediate focus is that customers see the benefit of our investments with a smooth transition and enhanced operational performance.

“Long-term, these investments demonstrate our commitment to continue as a leading and innovative supplier of board packaging to the food industry.”

The company currently provides cartonboard packaging, including sandwich skillets, nested trays, sleeves and cartons, for several food sectors.

Coveris’ board facilities are also equipped with computer-aided design (CAD) and plate making facilities, as well as a creative design centre, which will be revamped as part of the newly announced plan.

In September 2016, the company invested in new converter machinery to increase the manufacturing capacity of reclose-style labelling in its UK-based flexibles division.
