Trendlines Agtech portfolio company Valentis Nanotech has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an agricultural thermoplastics applications company in Israel.
Valentis’ technology is a blend of biodegradable, transparent material nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) which is made from plant pulp waste with additional nanoparticles to produce improved polymeric films.
The films can be used as a coating for increased strength or as a barrier against UV rays, oxygen and moisture and also in a diverse range of applications.
Valentis Nanotech CEO Dov Segev said: "Our first product is a special coating to be integrated in a polymeric laminate, which eliminates the use of aluminium foil in high-barrier flexible packaging for foodstuffs to create improved packaging material with a smaller environmental footprint. This collaboration enables us to increase our product range, apply the technology in another industry and for a different market need, and add value to our partner’s products."
Trendlines Agtech CEO Nitza Kardish said: "The willingness of a major player in the thermoplastics industry to partner with Valentis Nanotech is a validation of their innovative technology and emphasises the fact that the market is looking for new products and ways to enhance their range of products to keep on the competitive edge in their industry."
Valentis’ first product will be a coating for use in the food industry to create thinner, transparent packaging material that provides a high barrier against UV rays, oxygen, and moisture.
