Valmet has entered a deal to deliver a mill waste-fired boiler plant to Shanying Huazhong Paper’s mill in Jingzhou, Hubei, China.
Major parts of a CYMIC boiler island from fuel silo to boiler outlet will be delivered as part of the contract. The boiler is designed to use circulating fluidised bed (CFB) technology.
The new waste-to-energy boiler will supply electricity for the paper mill, which is owned by Shanying Huazhong Paper.
The boiler will also allow the mill to use all of its 260,000t of annual waste, including paper and rejects, as well as pulp sludge to produce energy.
Installation is slated to begin in June while heat and power production is expected to commence early next year.
Shanying Huazhong Paper power plant director Yi Shuai said: “Valmet’s boiler technology offers the highest steam parameters and overall plant efficiency.

By GlobalData“We expect to achieve high economic efficiency with reduced need for maintenance and production shut-downs.
“The tailor-made boiler design meets our expectations of steam parameters, which allow us to utilise standard turbine, and we believe it will help to optimise the entire plant.”
The latest investment made by Shanying Huazhong Paper in a waste-to-energy solution is also expected to support the growth of a circular economy.
ValmetEnergy business unit vice-president Kai Janhunen said: “This boiler delivery will be the first paper mill waste-to-energy boiler, which has the highest steam parameters.
“We have developed our waste-to-energy concept especially for this type of power plants. The solution will enable excellent efficiency through high steam parameters even when combusting demanding waste fuels.
“Utilising waste in energy production will enable a significant reduction of CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuel-powered plants.”
Last month, Valmet announced that it would deliver an OptiConcept M containerboard production line to Shanying International.
