US-based tableware products maker World Centric has unveiled its new 100% compostable, marine-degradable Kraft paper straws in an effort to reduce the impact of plastic straws on the environment and oceans.
The company created Kraft paper straws using sustainable materials such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified kraft paper.

According to the company, the straws contain no phthalates, BPA, or chlorine bleach, and will offer durability.
The new straws expand the company’s portfolio of more than 250 fully compostable tableware products offered as sustainable alternatives to plastic and Styrofoam disposables.
World Centric Sales senior vice-president Mark Stephany said: “US consumers use up to 500 million straws a day. Given growing concerns about the environmental impact of plastic straws, we’ve been looking for the best solution we could provide to reduce the amount of plastic in the ocean and the overall eco-footprint of straws.
“Our Kraft paper straws offer what we feel is the best alternative for solving the problem.”
The 8in Kraft paper straws are currently available in 50-count packages at all Publix stores in the US.
The straws are also available for purchase to the trade in 8in wrapped, and 8in-10in unwrapped versions.
World Centric offers compostable products for the foodservice industry. It has developed more than 250 foodservice and retail products across tableware, cutlery and food packaging domains.
