US-based convenience retailer 7-Eleven has launched a packaging redesign for its 7-Select Replenish hydration beverages to reduce plastic waste and improve transportation efficiency.

The new bottles use less plastic, which is expected to reduce plastic waste by approximately 104tpa.

Additionally, the optimised packaging allows for more cases per pallet, potentially reducing the number of delivery trucks by nearly 25%.

The updated design is now available across 7-Eleven, Speedway, and Stripes stores nationwide.

The initiative is part of 7-Eleven's ongoing commitment to sustainability, ensuring that the quality and taste of their products remain consistent for customers.

7-Eleven executive vice president and chief marketing and sustainability officer Marissa Jarratt said: "This redesign marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to innovate and operate sustainably.

"Not only does it allow us to reduce our plastic usage and streamline our logistics, but it also reflects our dedication to providing customers with products that align with their values."

Alongside the packaging redesign, 7-Eleven is introducing a new, limited-time flavour, Caramel Apple.

7-Eleven Private Brands & Emerging Brands vice president Nikki Boyers said: "This fall, we are inviting customers to embrace the changing seasons with the indulgent delight of Caramel Apple.

"With its exciting blend of flavours, Caramel Apple embodies the spirit of autumn."

Replenish and other 7-Select products are now available for delivery to customer’s doorstep through the 7NOW Delivery app across the US.

The service provides real-time tracking and an average delivery time of around 30 minutes.

In March, 7-Eleven and Metcash, a wholesale distribution and marketing company, joined the industry-led National Plastics Recycling Scheme to recycle soft plastics in Australia.
