ADAMA expands one-litre containers to Europe and beyond

The new container's space-efficient shape is set to result in an annual decrease of 340t of CO₂e.

Adama, a global crop protection company, has announced the expansion of its new one-litre containers designed to enhance sustainability and farmer usability.

The rollout of ADAMA’s new one-litre packaging will continue into Europe and Israel in the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, with plans to introduce the product to South America in the second and third quarters of the year.

These containers were originally launched in India.

The rectangular shape of the new containers allows for a denser placement on pallets and trucks, facilitating a 45% increase in product packing within the same space.

This optimisation also leads to fewer transportation requirements and a significant reduction in carbon emissions, with an estimated annual decrease of 340 tonnes (t) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e).

In addition, the containers are made with 10% less plastic, contributing to a reduction in plastic waste.

Farmers have reportedly expressed approval for the new design, which includes a textured surface for better grip, a wider opening for ease of pouring, and compatibility with the European industry standard Closed Transfer System to minimise product contact.

The new shape is not only space-efficient for storage but also facilitates easier identification of the product's name when placed closely together.

ADAMA Market Facing Programs head Ronen Golan said: "In response to the growing emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices within ADAMA and among farmers globally, we are continuously working to reduce the environmental footprint of our products.

"We developed our new containers with farmers and their daily activities in mind, enabling them to engage in more sustainable practices while addressing additional pain points they face, without changing their routines. It's a win-win situation for everyone."
