Austrian protective packaging manufacturer Adapa Group has released its annual sustainability report, highlighting its progress towards achieving environmental and sustainability goals in 2022.

The report details Adapta's achievements in reducing emissions, efforts to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in the company, and driving innovation in sustainable product development.

In September 2022, the company rebranded itself to Adapa, which represents a combination of 'adaptive packaging', as well as the group’s ability to 'adapt'.

Adapa’s new 'future is driven by action' strategy is based on four main areas - operational excellence, organic growth through customer proximity, sustainability, and digitalisation and innovation.

Adapa works on a '5R strategy' - responsibility, replacement, reduction, recycling and renewal - to implement sustainability efforts.

‘Responsibility’ includes the company’s effort to take care of its employees, as well as the overall impact of business activities on the environment.

‘Replacement’ involves transitioning to more sustainable alternative raw materials from traditional materials while ‘reduction’ focuses on minimising plastic use without compromising product protection and processing quality.

Adapa said it aims to make the raw materials in its packaging films fully recyclable and keep them in the closed-loop cycle to help achieve its 'recycling' vision.

The last strategy, ‘renewal’, is to encourage the use of renewable resources such as paper made from certified sustainably managed forests, and ensure the responsible regeneration and renewal of materials removed from these systems.

According to Adapa, these initiatives are also in line with its commitment towards the UN's Global Compact development.
