Advantive has acquired UK-based packaging software solutions provider Abaca Systems for an undisclosed sum.

Abaca is based in Manchester and has been serving the packaging industry since 1991.

The company offers solutions to meet the complex production needs of its clients via a single piece of software.

Its fully integrated software architecture is suitable for a wide range of customers, including those in the corrugated packaging, distribution, and maintenance sectors.

The company's business management suite, which includes accounting, reporting, scheduling solutions, and document management features, is claimed to offer its customers optimum performance in one secure and comprehensive solution.

Abaca joint managing director Graham Dickinson said: “Our aim at Abaca Systems has always been to offer superior products to our customers, and by joining the Advantive family, we will now be able to offer those customers even more.”

Abaca’s Packaging 3000 suite is an all-in-one solution that encompasses the entire distribution and packing process, from sales order processing through invoicing and reporting.

Furthermore, the company offers its RF3000 solution for barcoding functionality and to boost stock accuracy, as well as its Portal 3000 web-based app that enables businesses to receive business updates on their device.

Advantive CEO Benoit de la Tour said: “Advantive is constantly seeking out partners that will allow us to deliver the best in distribution and manufacturing to our customers.

“The addition of Abaca Systems helps us to fuel these aspirations globally. We look forward to using these new solutions to improve efficiencies and continue to deliver value to our global customers.”

Analyzing the dynamics of the metaverse in the packaging sector

Many of the vital metaverse technologies are already being used or piloted by packaging companies, who have brought together AI, AR, VR, cloud, the IoT, and other technologies to monitor and maintain key assets remotely. The sector could also use immersive metaverse solutions to optimize packaging design and quality control—testing prototypes in a virtual world before bringing them to market. Another disruptive benefit of the metaverse will be using underlying blockchain and digital twin technologies to assist in creating more transparent and traceable supply chains.
