The deal is said to be one of the first of its kind in the country.

Ardagh Glass Packaging-Europe (AGP-Europe), a division of Ardagh Group, has secured a long-term virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with Rezolv Energy.

The deal will provide AGP’s European glass manufacturing operations with renewable electricity from the St. George solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Bulgaria from April 2026.

Schneider Electric, known for its expertise in corporate renewable energy procurement and carbon management, facilitated the negotiation of the VPPA for AGP-Europe.

The VPPA makes AGP-Europe a corporate investor in Bulgaria's energy transition, leading the support for the St. George project.

The 229MW solar project will be one of the largest in Bulgaria, featuring nearly 400,000 PV panels.

This agreement, one of the first of its kind in Bulgaria, aims to supply AGP-Europe with 110GWh of renewable electricity per year over a 12-year period.

It complements the company's renewable energy supply from wind power, which was secured in Sweden earlier this year.

The combination of different renewable sources is expected to offer AGP-Europe a consistent power supply throughout the year.

This deal, along with other PPAs in AGP-Europe's portfolio, is projected to enable the company to meet more than 80% of its 2030 renewable electricity targets.

AGP-Europe CEO Martin Petersson said: “We are pleased to have finalised this agreement in just six months, which is largely due to Rezolv’s flexibility, the support and technical know-how of Schneider Electric, and our own experience in this field.

“The Bulgarian solar project perfectly meets our aim to diversify the locations of our renewable energy supply and to support emerging energy markets: AGP-Europe benefits from a supply of renewable electricity, while helping Bulgaria’s transition to low-carbon energy.”

In May this year, AGP-Europe entered into a PPA with Sunnic Lighthouse and its parent company, ENERPARC, in Germany.
