Ahlstrom, a sustainable speciality materials provider, has launched a new fibre-based, home-compostable lid for single-serve coffee capsules.  

Dubbed PureLid, the new lid serves as a high-performing alternative to traditional aluminium or plastic lids.  

The new solution is claimed to be not only ready to seal on coffee capsules but also maintains the coffee's freshness and flavour thanks to its oxygen barrier. 

It features a built-in filter that ensures a clean brewing process and a pure coffee taste. 

PureLid is compatible with common biobased coffee capsules, making it an ideal choice for brands aiming to minimise their environmental impact, the company claimed 

Ahlstrom's patented PureLid secured the OK compost HOME and OK compost INDUSTRIAL certifications from TÜV, thereby confirming its compostability both at home and in industrial settings.  

These certifications were granted following testing by an ISO 17025-accredited independent laboratory.

In October last year, Ahlstrom closed the sale of 100% of its paper mill plant in Stenay, France, to German investment fund Accursia Capital.
