Allen's, an Australian confectionery brand produced by Nestlé, is set to roll out new matte packaging across its popular range to reduce plastic usage.

To be introduced across Allen's Snakes Alive, Party Mix, and Killer Pythons products, the new packaging will cut the company's plastic usage by 21%.

The initiative will eliminate roughly 58 tonnes (t) of plastic annually, which is said to be the equivalent of approximately 4.6 million Snakes Alive lollies.

Allen's assured its customers that the taste of its lollies will remain unchanged despite the packaging overhaul.

The packaging revamp also introduces a modernised design for Allen's well-known brand characters, aiming to maintain the celebratory spirit associated with the business.

According to Nestlé marketing confectionery head Melanie Chen, the latest change is one is the most important changes in packaging the company has made in decades.

Chen said: “Allen’s lollies are here to bring smiles to Australians, and we want to keep doing that while reducing our impact on the environment, with a focus on reducing the amount of plastic we have in our packaging.

“While Allen's lolly bags will look and feel different, we believe Aussies will welcome this move towards using less plastic so they can enjoy their Allen's lollies even more."

Allen’s intends to reduce its virgin plastic usage by a third by 2025.
