Aluflexpack, a manufacturer of premium flexible packaging solutions, has announced the development of a new product: the 4∞ Form.
This blister pack, designed specifically for the pharmaceutical industry, is constructed entirely of lacquered aluminium, offering a sustainable and recyclable alternative to traditional multimaterial packaging.
The 4∞ Form solution addresses growing concerns about the environmental impact within the pharmaceutical packaging sector.
Existing blister pack solutions often rely on a combination of materials such as polyamide nylon/aluminium/polyvinyl chloride (PVC, coldform) or PVC/polyvinylidene dichloride (thermoform), presenting challenges for recycling and contributing to packaging waste.
The name '4∞ Form' itself hints at the product's key advantage: aluminium's infinite recyclability without compromising its properties.
This lightweight material boasts exceptional barrier properties, offering 100% protection against moisture, light, oxygen, gases, bacteria, and microorganisms.
This translates to extended shelf life for packaged pharmaceuticals, including tablets and capsules.
"With new regulations shaping the market we were encouraged to try something no one has done before: form lacquered aluminium into a new, fully recyclable product for the pharmaceutical industry," said Aluflexpack CEO Johannes Steurer.
"Using our strong network of suppliers and collaborators, and more importantly the experience and deep industrial knowledge of our R&D [research and development] department, we have come up with a new solution that can shape the pharma market in a new, more sustainable direction."
The 4∞ Form caters to individual customer requirements, offering complete customisation for shape, printing, and branding.
Its aforementioned robust barrier properties make it ideal for packaging a wide range of pharmaceuticals, from antibiotics requiring exceptional protection to over-the-counter medications.
Aluflexpack's commitment to sustainability is further reinforced by its recent Gold certification from EcoVadis, recognising it as a top 1% performer in the printing industry for environmental, social, and ethical practices.
Additionally, the company actively develops solutions compliant with the upcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and is a member of the Science-Based Targets initiative.
