Amcor, a global packaging solutions provider, has reported a 9% reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions for 2024.

The company provided the data in its latest Sustainability Report.

Its progress is further highlighted by the increase in renewable electricity usage, which represents a 64% rise from the previous year.

Amcor's efforts have also led to more than 94% of its portfolio of flexible packaging by area offering recyclable solutions while 95% of its rigid packaging by weight is deemed recyclable at scale.

In addition, the company exceeded its target of incorporating at least 10% post-consumer recycled plastic into its products a year ahead of schedule, purchasing recycled material of more than 254,000 tonnes for its solutions.

It also claims that 100% of its speciality carton packaging is now certified as recyclable by the Institute cyclos-HTP.

Amcor, which provides packaging for food, beverage, medical, home, and other sectors, says it has generated $8.1bn in revenue from products that meet global recyclability standards in 2024.

The company employs 41,000 people, generating $13.6bn in sales annually from its operations during the financial year.

Amcor CEO Peter Konieczny said: "Amcor has led the way in making incredible progress designing our products to be recyclable and more efficient, but design alone is not enough.

"Society needs consumer participation and infrastructure development to make circularity real - to make sure used packaging is not left in nature but recycled to become new packaging. Sustainability is at the heart of our company and drives a sense of purpose, inspiration and energy in everything we do."

Recently, Amcor received the EcoVadis Gold medal for its notable sustainability practices in the development and production of packaging solutions.
