Dispensing packaging solutions provider Aptar Beauty has introduced what it describes as the first fragrance pump on the market to include up to 67% mechanical PCR (post-consumer recycled resin) Plus material.

By using PCR content during manufacturing, Aptar has reduced the product’s CO₂ emissions by up to 39% compared to the version that uses conventional resin. This has been verified by a life cycle analysis of the raw materials using the company’s internal Eco Design tool.

At the end of its life, the PCR fragrance pump can be recycled by consumers together with the bottle as glass waste, subject to local capabilities.

The snap-on pump dispenses an 80mcl dosage and is fully customisable to allow for on-brand designs.

The aim of the product is for brands to reduce their Scope 3 carbon emissions [the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by an organisation but that the organisation indirectly affects in its value chain] and benefit from a ready-to-use PCR content claim.

Aptar emphasises that using the pump may help brands avoid extra plastic packaging taxes, dependent on location.

Aptar Beauty fragrance lifestyle regional platform manager for EMEA Giuseppe Barletta commented: “This pump not only adds a touch of colour and differentiation to fragrance launches but can also help brands achieve their sustainability goals by committing to packaging circularity.”

Aptar Beauty recently introduced the NeoDropper skincare packaging solution, designed for more controlled application.
