Aramco Asia Korea has partnered with various Seoul-based entities to launch a reusable plastic food trays initiative at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, South Korea.

Named the Multi-use Plastic Food Tray programme, the initiative aims to increase waste separation rates within the stadium and focus on the importance of responsible disposal and recycling.

The pilot will see the production and distribution of approximately 100,000 reusable food and beverage trays to spectators, thereby replacing single-use containers and reducing plastic waste at the stadium.

These trays can be washed and sterilised at designated facilities to ensure safe reuse at future events.

The initiative has been launched in partnership with the Doosan Bears baseball team, LG Sports, Amoje, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the Seoul Association of Self-Proficiency Centres, and the Seoul Metropolitan Council.

Seoul mayor Se-hoon Oh said: "The usage of reusable plastic food trays at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, which is the home ground of Seoul-affiliated baseball teams, exemplifies the city's commitment to sustainability and environmental protection.

“With this initiative, Jamsil Baseball Stadium is set to become a more attractive destination in Seoul, leading the way in fostering an eco-friendly sports viewing culture.”

Aramco Korea has previously undertaken similar projects, including installing benches made from recycled plastic and launching a coding school to bridge the digital divide among underprivileged students.

The plan's announcement was made at a ceremony in Seoul City Hall on 12 April 2024.

Aramco Korea acting representative director Khalid Radi said: "By introducing reusable plastic food trays at this landmark baseball stadium, we’re not just reducing waste; we’re inviting hundreds of thousands and millions of fans to join us in making a conscious choice for the environment.”
