Berry Global has secured a notable achievement by being named to JUST Capital's 2024 list of America's Most JUST Companies. This distinction places Berry within the top half (22nd out of 51) of its "Industrial Goods" industry and positions it at 372nd overall among the Russell 1000's largest US corporations.
Significant improvement from previous year
Berry's performance this year marks a leap forward. Compared to 2023, the company climbed six spots within its industry and 223 spots in the overall ranking. This progress reflects advancements across four of JUST Capital's five assessment categories: workers, communities, environment, and shareholders & governance.
Attributing this success to focused efforts, Jeff Bennett, Berry's Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, highlighted the company's commitment to fostering "a safe, ethical, inclusive, and rewarding work environment" while contributing positively to the communities they operate in.
Bennett further emphasised Berry's dedication to sustainability, diversity, and responsible growth:
“This significant improvement in our ranking supports our vision of becoming our industry employer of choice and underscores our commitment to sustainability, diversity, continuous improvement, and responsible growth.”
Inclusion in JUST Capital Index and ETF
By achieving a top-half ranking within its industry, Berry gains inclusion for the first time in the JUST US Large Cap Diversified Index (JULCD) and the corresponding JUST US Large Cap Equity ETF (JUST).
Launched in 2016, the JULCD serves as JUST Capital's primary index, tracking the top 50% (by industry) of JUST Capital-ranked Russell 1000 companies. This inclusion caters to investors seeking to align their capital with companies demonstrating strong performance in JUST Capital's designated areas.
JUST Capital's evaluation process
JUST Capital's annual rankings involve the collection and analysis of data from the 1,000 largest publicly traded US companies.
This data is assessed across 20 key areas identified through public opinion research gauging American perspectives on responsible corporate conduct.
For 2024, JUST Capital evaluated 937 companies across 36 industries, assigning weights to different categories: workers (42%), communities (18%), customers (14%), environment (11%), and shareholders & governance (16%).
These rankings reflect the opinions of approximately 3,000 US citizens and serve as a benchmark for a company's performance relative to its industry peers and the broader Russell 1000 index.
