Berry Global has announced that German filling equipment company Haver & Boecker is collaborating with Berry's flexible films manufacturing facility in Steinfeld, Germany.
As part of this partnership, Haver & Boecker will develop a closed-loop system that will help in the collection and recycling of film bags manufactured under Berry’s brand NorDiVent.
The effort will help in promoting the reuse of resources while contributing to a significant reduction in waste.
All residual NorDiVent film from the test runs of every Haver & Boecker ADAMS filling machine will be collected and transferred to Berry's in-house recycling plant in Steinfeld.
At this recycling site, the recovered plastic will then be washed, shredded, and processed into regranulate that can be used for manufacturing new tubular film.
Haver & Boecker's sales support manager Christian Reinke said: “We are delighted to be partnering with Berry on this important project. It enables our customers to enjoy many benefits of plastic film while demonstrating that used bags are a valuable resource that can be recycled.
“Equally important, bags containing recycled plastic meet the high standard of technical performance required for powder-based products.”
The project is in line with Berry’s sustainability strategy and its BMore Together initiative.
Berry Steinfeld sales director Frank Heseding said: “This is an important initiative that shows how it is possible to close the loop for plastic film, with a practical solution that collects and recycles the film to produce a high-quality bag containing up to 50% recycled plastic.”
In a separate development, Berry announced it is incorporating its high-performance polyethylene lamination films range under its newly made Entour film brand.
The company will rename its European 'FormiForLAM' range to 'Entour' to further simplify the product lineup.
A part of Berry’s B Circular product range, Entour films serve as a 'single source solution' for various converter and food films.
It is suitable for bags, pouches, stand-up pouches and flow wraps across different industries such as the foods, wipes, and pet foods sectors.
