Black Swan Graphene, a graphene products manufacturer, has announced the launch of Graphene Enhanced Masterbatch (GEM) S27M, its new GEM for sustainable packaging.

The new product is the latest addition to the company’s GraphCore-01 product line.

GEM S27M is a 10% graphene nanoplatelet masterbatch incorporated into high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is claimed to be designed to offer transformative benefits.

HDPE, known for its high strength-to-density ratio, is said to be suitable for these types of packaging applications.

The integration of graphene and HDPE delivers enhanced mechanical properties such as superior strength and durability.

These enhanced properties meet the demanding applications required in packaging such as plastic bottles and waste bags.

GEM S27M is designed to be blended with recycled PE, thereby allowing customers to improve the performance of their materials while adhering to sustainability practices.

Black Swan vice-president for research and product development Chris Herron said: "When polymers are recycled, some of the original properties are often reduced. The addition of small amounts of graphene, typically less than 1% loading, reinforces and enhances the original mechanical performance parameters."

This sustainable packaging solution is the fifth graphene-enhanced masterbatch in the GraphCore-01 product line.

It is available in large volumes with a short lead time, stated the company.

Black Swan recently launched GEM X23M for polypropylene applications in the automotive industry, GEM S24M for tensile property enhancement in fibres, GEM D26M for polyamide nylon 6, and GEM bB25L for thermoplastic polyurethane.

All of these products are derived from the company’s GraphCore Powder.

Black Swan produces graphene products for many industrial sectors, including the polymers and concrete industries.
