BOBST, a Switzerland-based machinery and services supplier to the packaging industry, has announced the delivery of its BOBST Master M5 Flexo press to Skanem Interlabels Nairobi.

The new machine has been installed at the multinational labels manufacturer’s facility in Nairobi, Kenya.

Master M5 has been designed to support digital workflow by comprising integrated printing and converting technologies.

This press is mainly used by converters who are interested in automating their production line.

BOBST said that the press delivers quality labels and ensures consistency at a low operating cost.

Master M5 will help Skanem to print a wide range of substrates such as pressure-sensitive labels, biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) wraparound labels, shrink sleeve labels, as well as in-mould labels.

Skanem Interlabels Nairobi managing director Sachen Gudka said: “Our customers rightly demand quality, and we want to be able to provide them with the highest quality labels available on the market.

“With the Master M5, we can feel confident about being able to give our customers exactly what they want. With current packaging trends, run lengths are getting shorter, and SKU [stock-keeping unit] proliferation is getting larger.

“This is where the production workflow with the Master M5 is very appealing. In addition, printing and converting speed and ease of use are important factors, along with the quality and speed of service support. BOBST ticks all these boxes.”

Skanem’s operations in Nairobi involve the export of labels to 13 different countries across Africa. It caters to customers in various industries such as industrial packaging, personal care, and pharmaceutical, among others.

Recently, Turkish company Yilpar selected BOBST’s two gravure printing presses to expand its flexible packaging business.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages Packaging Industry Dynamics

In 2022, the soft drinks sector held the largest non-alcoholic beverages packaging market share, while the hot drinks sector is forecasted to register the fastest growth during 2022–27. Rigid plastics are usually a preferred choice in the non-alcoholic beverages industry because of their portability, convenience, and lightweight nature that facilitate on-the-go consumption.
