Bonterra, a household paper products line produced by Kruger Products, has renewed its partnership with ocean cleanup company 4ocean in its endeavour to end the ocean plastic crisis.

The improved partnership, announced on this year’s World Ocean Day, will help 4ocean in scaling up its shared plastic removal pledge to 100,000lb annually from its previous goal of 10,000lb.

According to Kruger, this is the equivalent of more than 4.5 million plastic water bottles being removed from the oceans of the world.

Kruger's chief marketing officer Susan Irving said: "On this World Ocean Day, we are proud to support our partners at 4ocean more than ever as they grow their operations to clean up our oceans with this powerful new commitment.

"Our partnership with 4ocean is made possible by the support of Canadians who have made Bonterra household paper products part of their own sustainability commitments and is a meaningful and measurable way that we are making a difference together for a better planet."

To achieve the new goal, 4ocean has found new and cost-efficient ways to transport and deliver collected material, scale up its vessel count, and expand to additional river cleanups.

CEO and co-founder of 4ocean Alex Schulze said: "Partnerships with brands like Bonterra make it possible for us to expand our cleanup operations and increase our plastic removal targets every year.”

Bonterra, which was launched in February last year in Canada, offers sustainable bathroom tissues, paper towels, and facial tissues.

Products under this line are made from 100% recycled paper with the Forest Stewardship Council's Chain of Custody certification and are all wrapped in plastic-free packaging.
