Design-led corrugated packaging company the BoxWay Packaging Group has used its in-house design capabilities to design cardboard boxes for UK online garden centre Ashridge Nurseries, which is based in Somerset.
The boxes replace preformed plastic packs to protect Ashridge’s herbaceous plants and pots during transit across the UK.
The cardboard structure employs an integral flap in a die-cut version of a 0427 box to ensure rigidity and strength to secure the pots.
The packaging also provides the option of additional space for a variety of plant sizes and lengths.
Ashridge Nurseries fulfilment manager Rodney Marsh commented: “This box is not only a key ecological development for us to reduce our carbon footprint and offer our online customers a recyclable packaging solution, but it also contributes to our efforts to completely remove plastic from our whole supply chain.”
The retailer intends to roll out more cardboard solutions for its additional plant product lines.
BoxWay new business manager Tom Fooks added: “We are thrilled with the result of the new eco-friendly structured boxes. We look forward to further developing Ashridge Nurseries’ complete range of corrugated solutions.”
BoxWay was established in 2021 and operates two manufacturing plants in Exeter, Devon, and in Peterlee, County Durham.
The company recently secured a Silver rating from globally recognised sustainability ratings provider EcoVadis.
