Coca-Cola Indonesia announces nationwide launch of 100% rPET bottles

These bottles will be used for Coca-Cola's Fanta, Sprite, and Sprite Waterlymon brands.

Coca-Cola Indonesia has joined forces with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) to launch recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) plastic-made bottles across the country.

The recycled bottles are produced from post-consumer PET at an advanced recycling facility in West Java, a plant developed by CCEP Indonesia and Dynapack Asia.

The entire bottle, when excluding the cap and label, is made of 100% rPET plastic.

These rPET bottles are being used for Coca-Cola-trademarked brands such as Fanta, Sprite in 390ml, and Sprite Waterlymon in 425ml.

CCEP said in a statement: “This significant milestone is a step toward the development of a closed-loop circular economy in Indonesia, and underscores CCEP’s commitment to its goal of using 50% less recycled plastic in its packaging by 2025. This ambition is aligned with the Coca-Cola Company’s sustainability vision 'A World Without Waste'.

“The introduction of 100% rPET bottles marks a substantial contribution towards this goal, reducing reliance on new plastics in Indonesia and lowering carbon emissions in the production process.”

The recycling facility manufactures these bottles and also houses a jointly established foundation, Mahija Parahita Nusantara.

The foundation drives circular outcomes for PET bottles while also supporting waste collectors.

Mahija’s efforts support community employment and provide feedstock for the facility. It operates in compliance with human rights and waste collection supply chain regulations.

These efforts also align with Coca-Cola's aim to collect the equivalent amount of cans and bottles it sells by 2030.

Recently, CCEP collaborated with Sidel to move to a lighter neck for CCEP's carbonated soft drinks plastic bottles.
