Aluminium products manufacturer Constellium has provided a new sustainable packaging solution for luxury fashion house Chanel's 'Le Volume' mascara collection.

The packaging is the result of a partnership between Constellium, Chanel Fragrance & Beauty, and luxury packaging specialist g.pivaudran.

The solution incorporates between 10% to 20% post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium, depending on the model.

Since 2018, Constellium said it has worked closely with g.pivaudran to overcome technical challenges, including issues with deep stamping and maintaining either a smooth or brushed decor on the packaging.

The collaboration also focused on ensuring the solution's aesthetics remained intact after anodisation and that the raw material with recycled content remained stable.

Constellium Sales & Marketing Specialties director Patrick Broom said: “We are very proud of this major accomplishment, which supports the growing trend towards eco-friendly solutions in the beauty industry.

“We would like to thank Chanel for paving the way towards more eco-friendly solutions in the beauty industry. We are proud to partner with them and with g.pivaudran to advance sustainable luxury cosmetic packaging solutions.”

Constellium has been producing highly specialised aluminium surfaces at its rolling mill in Singen, Germany, that are unique to the cosmetics industry.

To address the challenge of integrating high-lustre finishes with optimal deep-drawing characteristics, Constellium has developed special alloys.

These alloys have uniform conversion properties and conform to specific dimensional tolerances, ensuring the final product meets the high standards expected by customers such as Chanel.
