Circus, a global provider of AI and autonomous robotics solutions, has partnered with software-enabled reusable packaging company Vytal to introduce a reusable bowl system for the Circus Autonomy One (CA-1) food production robot.

The partnership integrates Vytal’s reusable packaging into Circus' AI and robotics solution, offering a default sustainable solution for all CA-1 customers worldwide.

This collaboration supports the United Nation's (UN) Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12), which focuses on responsible consumption and production, by promoting sustainable practices across the foodservice industry.

The partnership is accelerating progress towards more environmentally responsible supply chains and the achievement of a circular economy by reducing the reliance on single-use packaging and addressing food waste through AI-driven precision.

With the global foodservice industry generating an estimated €473bn ($496bn) in food waste annually, the use of advanced technology to counter this is crucial.

CircusAI, at the core of Circus' technology ecosystem, plays a key role in achieving near-zero food waste by accurately predicting demand, optimising portions, and eliminating inefficiencies such as overproduction and cold chain mishandling.

Circus founder and CEO Nikolas Bullwinkel said: “Working with Vytal is more than a partnership; it's a commitment to redefining how food can be sustainably produced and packaged unlocked by revolutionary technology.

“By combining our CircusAI capabilities with Vytal’s tech-enabled reusable solutions, we're not only enhancing the customer experience but also actively contributing to further reducing our emissions in meal production.

In the second quarter of this year, Circus launched the commercialisation of its AI-powered robot, which has since seen strong demand.

With precise preparation, the system reduces food waste by over 90%. This innovation has resulted in more than 8,400 preorders and an annual revenue potential of €1.1bn through the CircusAI software.

Vytal co-founder and managing director Fabian Barthel said: “Partnering with Circus demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when AI robotics meets our circular economy solutions."

In June this year, the Highland Community Waste Partnership partnered with Vytal to trial a returnable packaging scheme in Scotland, UK.
