Canadian-owned diversified packaging products manufacturer CKF has announced the opening of a new production line at its pulp manufacturing facility in Langley, British Columbia, Canada.

The new line will help in the production of the company’s certified recyclable and home compostable food packaging range, called Earthcycle.

To mark this new addition, CKF hosted an event that was attended by Langley mayor Nathan Pachal and British Columbia’s cabinet minister Andrew Mercier.

Mercier said: “British Columbians are focused on a more sustainable future, and supporting local companies that are passionate about sustainable, responsible growth.

“I am grateful for the innovative work that CKF is doing in food packaging to contribute to a wholesome and healthy foods supply and am glad that CKF is part of the Langley community.”

CKF’s Earthcycle food packaging range comprises compostable, recyclable and renewable products such as fibre pulp trays, plates and hinged lid containers.

The range is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and can meet the requirements of several industries, retail customers, packers and growers.

It can be used for packaging fresh fruit and vegetables.

With the launch of the new production line, the company further aims to minimise the transportation footprint of its Earthcycle range and expand its distribution to new industries and markets.

CKF president Ian Anderson said: “Earthcycle’s expansion in Langley is driven by rising demands for packaging that reduces carbon footprints, aligns with recycling streams, and satisfies consumers' desire for sustainable options.”

Anderson added: “Langley's strategic location near major markets in California [US], the Pacific Northwest, and Western Canada, coupled with access to global trade routes, strengthens our production capabilities.

“It also serves as a hub for further Earthcycle innovation, expanding the product line into new market applications.”

The capabilities of CKF’s original Earthcycle production facilities in Hantsport, Nova Scotia, when combined with the Canadian west coast's production units, help in positioning the company as the largest thermoformed moulded pulp producer for the food packaging market in the country.
