Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines (CCBPI) and Shell Pilipinas have broadened their recycling initiative in the Philippines.

The partners are bringing their 'Tapon to Ipon: Basta Klaro, Panalo' programme to the cities of Manila and Davao.

The programme aims to gather clear polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles across brands for recycling at designated locations.

The initiative began in 2021 and is designed to encourage community and customer involvement in recycling PET bottles.

The partners have installed collection points at Shell Select stations for clear PET bottles of any brand for recycling.

The companies have joined forces with various stakeholders, including key customers, traditional trade outlets, and both private and government entities, to set collection hubs for recyclable PET plastic bottles.

CCBPI National Key Accounts senior manager Michael Joseph Bayani said: "The expansion of this sustainability initiative with Shell is another milestone in our unified goal towards creating more accessible collection and recycling infrastructure in the country.

"Since we started launching our collection hubs in Shell Select outlets in 2021, we have been continuously working on fulfilling our shared responsibility toward a World Without Waste. We are truly grateful for Shell’s invaluable support, and we are excited to continue driving even greater impact together.”

The Tapon to Ipon initiative plays a crucial role in supplying clear PET plastic bottles to PETValue Philippines, a joint venture (JV) between Coca-Cola and Indorama Ventures, for recycling.

The JV developed the first bottle-to-bottle recycling facility in the Philippines.

In November 2023, non-profit organisation Oceana called on Coca-Cola and PepsiCo to increase their use of reusable packaging and reduce single-use plastic.
