Charoen Pokphand (CP) Foods Public Company has announced signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SCG Packaging (SCGP) and SCG Chemicals (SCGC).
The MoU has been signed to launch a green packaging initiative.
As part of this effort, the companies will work to develop an environmentally friendly and sustainable food packaging solution.
CP Foods’ partnership with SCGP will focus on facilitating innovations mainly in pulp and polymer based packaging.
SCGP COO Wichan Charoenkitsupat said: “In this alliance with CP Foods, SCGP brings to table its rich expertise and technological know-how in packaging— from paper pulp to sustainable polymers, all tailored for CP Foods' production dynamics.”
Meanwhile, CP Foods’ collaboration with SCGC will focus on green polymer-based plastic solution innovations.
SCGC New Business senior executive vice president and chief innovation officer Dr Suracha Udomsak said: “Thailand holds a significant position in global food export arena. Thus, consuming high-grade food in green packaging can address food security challenges while efficiently utilising resources, adhering to principles of Circular Economy.”
SCGC said it currently offers eco-conscious polymers under its GREEN POLYMER, which is in alignment with low waste and carbon principles.
This brand mainly focuses on four areas – resource reduction, recyclability design, recycling and renewable resource utilisation.
Besides, the latest effort is expected to help the three companies to reinforce their shared commitment to minimise greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and promote consumer safety.
It will also help the companies to address the increasing demand of consumers for sustainable packaging in the country.
CP Foods CEO Prasit Boondoungprasert said: “This tri-company partnership reflects a mutual intent to create sustainable packaging, resonating with CP Foods' dedication to crafting food products beneficial for the body, mind, and environment.
“Their collective vision looks forward to achieving net-zero GHG emissions by 2050, with packaging being a focal point.
“Presently, 99.9% of CP Foods' packaging is either reusable, recyclable, or compostable. Through this collaborative endeavour, hope is to further amplify company's positive impact on the environment, elevating Thailand's packaging industry efficiency.”
