The CPP, a cross-industry collaboration dedicated to advancing circular packaging solutions in the country, has expanded its network by adding key industry leaders.

New members of the collaboration include Restaurants Canada, the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR), and McDonald’s Canada.

Restaurants Canada will team up with the CPP to reduce plastic waste and enhance the role of the foodservice sector in the transition towards a circular economy.

The inclusion of the APR in the CPP will also help boost plastics recyclability in North America.

In addition to offering technical guidance and expertise, the APR will contribute to the development of packaging designs that are easier to recycle.

Meanwhile, McDonald’s Canada is progressing towards its global objective of sourcing all primary packaging from sustainable sources by 2025.

It also aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

CPP managing director Cher Mereweather said: "We are thrilled to have these influential industry players join the pact to support us in creating impact and to accelerate progress on our roadmap targets.

"Their involvement adds significant momentum, ensuring that our collective efforts continue to propel us towards meaningful advancements."

The CPP, which launched in January 2021, has initiated various strategic working groups to address the complexities of implementing systemic changes in Canada.

The collaboration will release its 2022 Annual Report next week.
