Organic seaweed snack brand Gimme Seaweed has partnered with plastic recovery company, rePurpose Global, to tackle plastic pollution by supporting the removal of ocean-bound plastics.

Gimme Seaweed will assist rePurpose Global in its efforts in Indonesia, a critical region for coral reefs and marine biodiversity, which faces significant challenges due to plastic pollution.

Through the partnership, Gimme will contribute to rePurpose Global's Project Segara Kerthi, which aims to safeguard ocean and reef ecosystems in Bali.

The place, home to six marine turtle species, is said to be under threat from increasing plastic pollution.

The company will also support Project Laut Yang Tenang in West Java on new collection and recycling systems for ocean-bound plastic and the recycling of collected plastics into new products.

Gimme Seaweed co-founder and CEO Steve Broad said: "By implementing our Plastic Recovery Pledge with rePurpose Global, we are highlighting our dedication to environmental stewardship and actively addressing plastic pollution.

"This will enable us to make a measurable difference in the health of our planet's ecosystems for future generations."

Gimme Seaweed is recognised for its commitment to sustainability, including introducing roasted seaweed snacks without plastic trays.

The brand uses regenerative crops that require no fresh water and can be farmed organically to benefit ocean health and combat climate change.

Their collaboration efforts also aim to provide better opportunities for waste workers in these areas.

rePurpose Global has already recovered more than 60 million pounds of nature-bound plastic waste and continues to create positive social impacts through fairer employment practices in the waste management sector.

rePurpose Global co-founder and CEO Svanika Balasubramanian said: "We are thrilled to partner with Gimme in our collective mission to combat plastic pollution and drive transformational change.

“Together, we are working towards a fairer and cleaner future where plastic waste is no longer a threat to our environment and communities."
