Florida-based US agriculture company Green Life Farms (GLF) has launched new packaging for some of its food produce.

The packaging features a "peel and reseal" container style for the company’s Sandwich Leaf and Butter Leaf lettuce products, with a focus on freshness to minimise food waste.

Most produce sold in the US is grown on the West Coast, so for East Coast consumers, produce can be a week old before it reaches supermarkets. GLF is hoping to bridge this gap.

As well as ensuring freshness, all GLF packaging is made from 100% polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recyclable plastic as the company aims to lower its environmental impact.

All products now also have updated label designs to highlight the benefits of locally grown produce.

By reducing plastic usage, extending shelf life and ensuring recyclability, GLF aims to become an industry leader within the controlled agriculture industry.

The company’s director of marketing Sarah Boone commented: "We are confident that our customers will love not only the new look but also the functionality of the new packaging for our Florida-grown greens.”

In Lake Worth and Punta Gorda, Florida, GLF operates enclosed hydroponic greenhouses, which grow produce year-round under controlled conditions without soil.
