Industrial packaging products and services provider Greif has launched a new modular packaging solution, ModCan, at the Pack-Expo conference in Chicago, US.
The ModCan containment system can be used for industrial waste management and other applications requiring safe and secure shipping of diverse materials together, claims the company.
The system is designed to seamlessly fit into Greif’s 55gal drums, allowing for the transportation of multiple materials without the risk of contamination.
The wedge-shaped design of ModCan's components maximises the use of space within a single drum. This optimisation reduces the number of shipments needed and enhances safety by avoiding the transfer of materials into larger containers.
The solution is available in 3.75gal and 1.75gal sizes with angles to the neck and heel and a 70mm Plasticap thread finish.
The solution is especially beneficial for waste management in sectors such as speciality manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing, clean rooms, laboratories, and pharmaceutical production.
The idea for ModCan was developed in collaboration with a long-term partner from the chemical industry. Their insight into the need for a more sustainable and versatile packaging option led to the creation of this solution.
With support from the company’s in-house innovation team, the idea was refined and brought to market. Currently, ModCan is available to customers in North America.
The company reported a 6.5% drop in net income to $63.4m in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from $67.8m in the same period the previous year.
In September, Greif opened a new intermediate bulk container (IBC) manufacturing facility in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, to improve the company’s production capabilities.
Greif’s product offerings include containerboard, corrugated sheets and products, steel, plastic, and fibre drums, IBCs, and more.
