Gunze unveils Purewrap thin film for frozen food packaging

The FS35NB and FS40NB improve sustainability by reducing plastic usage by 50%.

Gunze, a manufacturer of plastic films and engineering plastics, has announced the launch of two new types of its ultra-thin and tough blown film Purewrap.

The new additions include FS35NB and FS40NB, both of which are said to be compatible for boiling applications.

The new films maintain the ultra-thin yet tough characteristics that define the Purewrap series and are ideal for central kitchens and food processing facilities usage.

The FS35NB and FS40NB also improve sustainability by reducing plastic usage by 50%.

This aligns with global efforts towards environmental sustainability and compliance with Japan's "Plastic Resource Circulation Act", which requires all stakeholders to cut plastic use and improve resource recycling throughout the entire lifecycle of plastic products.

Gunze has been focusing on perishable seafood, livestock products, and others that are often transported in freezing environments.

The company launched Purewrap FS35N and FS40N in January 2022.

These films are claimed to provide more than twice the puncture strength of traditional films while halving the plastic content.

With the introduction of the boilable type, the company expanded the applicability of Purewrap to a wider range of foods processed in central kitchens for commercial prepared foods and restaurants.

The Purewrap series, known for its coextruded blown film with simultaneous biaxial orientation, offers unmatched puncture and impact resistance.

Gunze's proprietary raw material compounding, multilayer construction, and orientation technologies have culminated in a nylon-polyethylene film that is not only highly flexible but also superior in puncture resistance, making it a suitable choice for refrigerated transport.

Headquartered in Osaka, Japan, Gunze has a presence in more than 20 countries, and operates three manufacturing plants in Japan and subsidiaries in the US, China and Vietnam.
