Global solutions provider Henkel has enhanced its commitment to sustainability by joining the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative, a recycling programme led by the non-profit organisation Alupro.

Launched in September 2022, the programme aims to raise awareness and educate consumers on aerosols to boost its recycling rates across the country.

The UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative aims to achieve a national aerosol recycling rate of 50% by 2030.

Earlier this year, the group launched a roadmap that would help achieve this target.

Henkel's operational head for R&D Operations (UK & Ireland) Claudia Berto said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative and supporting its mission to further improve aerosol recycling rates across the UK.

“At Henkel, we’re committed to contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future and fostering innovation to embrace the circular economy. Together, alongside businesses from across the aerosol value chain, we can work to make a lasting impact, promoting responsible consumption and best practice recycling.”

Earlier in April this year, Henkel and UPM Specialty Papers created a new line of packaging that aims to provide a sustainable alternative for protective and heat-sealable packaging.

Henkel offers haircare products and laundry detergents such as Loctite, Jeyes, Schwarzkopf, and Dylon Dyes.

Alupro's executive director Tom Giddings said: “As a world-leading solutions provider, partnering with Henkel will prove invaluable to the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative as we continue to drive change in the aluminium packaging industry.”
