Henkel Adhesive Technologies, a global leader in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings, has announced a strategic partnership with Panverta CPP, a leading Indonesian film manufacturer, to develop sustainable packaging solutions for dry food products.

By combining Henkel's advanced adhesive technology with Panverta's expertise in film manufacturing, the collaboration aims to reduce the environmental impact of packaging while maintaining product integrity.

Traditional packaging for dry foods often requires multiple layers of materials to ensure adequate protection from moisture, oxygen, and light.

The companies said this multilayer approach can lead to increased waste and recycling challenges.

Henkel and Panverta have successfully developed a breakthrough solution that enables the use of a single-layer polypropylene (PP) film for dry food packaging, significantly reducing the material footprint.

The key to this innovation lies in Henkel's recyclable Loctite Liofol oxygen barrier coating.

This coating provides exceptional oxygen barrier properties, allowing for the creation of thinner, more sustainable packaging without compromising product quality.

By minimising the number of materials used, the partnership addresses concerns related to recycling and waste management.

“Henkel has supported us throughout the entire process, from initial trials to ongoing production,” said Marcus Hengky, sales manager at Panverta.

“Thanks to the collaboration with Henkel, we have been able to increase the added value of our product portfolio and now also appeal to brand owners who want to replace traditional multilayer packaging with thinner and more efficient solutions made from a single material.”

The Loctite Liofol coating is compatible with both oriented PP and polyethylene films, offering versatility and flexibility for packaging manufacturers.

It can be applied at high machine speeds, ensuring efficient production processes.

Additionally, the coating is certified recyclable by cyclos-HTP and recognised by the Association of Plastic Recyclers, further enhancing its sustainability credentials.

At TOKYO PACK 2024 in Japan, Henkel and Panverta will showcase their collaborative efforts through the presentation of standing pouches and laminated reels featuring the innovative packaging solution.

By partnering with Panverta, Henkel is demonstrating its commitment to developing sustainable packaging solutions that address the growing demand for environmentally friendly products.
