German chemical and consumer goods company Henkel has switched the packaging of its Pritt and Loctite glues to sustainable EPIX padded mailers for online delivery.

The new padded mailers for these brands incorporate Henkel's EPIX technology to ensure the protection of products during shipping to e-commerce customers.

Henkel’s technology enhances the functionality of paper, enabling a reduction in the reliance on plastic for product packaging.

The packaging consists of 90% recycled paper, holds a recyclability certification from Institut cyclos-HTP, and provides various advantages over conventional packaging.

With added tamper-evident features, the new mailers use less material compared to regular packaging, as they are customised to accommodate Pritt and Loctite products for e-commerce.

Furthermore, they eliminate extra packaging for these products, reducing cardboard and plastic waste, and ensuring that the products are ready to use upon delivery by the courier.

Henkel Consumer Adhesives global e-commerce portfolio and innovation manager Melis Topoyan said: “Switching to these innovative EPIX padded mailers is another important milestone in our strong commitment to sustainability in e-commerce.

“The packaging is made from 90% recycled paper and is 92% recyclable, so consumers can simply drop the mailer into their local paper recycling system.

“In this way, we are supporting the transition to a circular economy - where materials stay in the economic cycle for longer and waste becomes a thing of the past.”

Henkel plans to ensure that all its packaging is optimised for recyclability or reusability by 2025.

The company works with global waste collection and recycling initiatives to ensure proper disposal and recycling of all packaging waste.

Last month, Henkel announced the relaunch of its bonding and sealing portfolio to meet the demands of its customers and craftspeople across the European market.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages Packaging Industry Dynamics

In 2022, the soft drinks sector held the largest non-alcoholic beverages packaging market share, while the hot drinks sector is forecasted to register the fastest growth during 2022–27. Rigid plastics are usually a preferred choice in the non-alcoholic beverages industry because of their portability, convenience, and lightweight nature that facilitate on-the-go consumption.
