Integrated plastics manufacturer Inteplast Group has secured International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS verification for its three US-based biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film facilities.

The facilities are located in Gray Court, South Carolina; Lolita, Texas; and Morristown, Tennessee.

This certification positions Inteplast as one of the first North American manufacturers of BOPP film to obtain ISCC PLUS designation.

It will enable Inteplast's BOPP Films segment to produce and supply materials that are attributed through a mass balance approach.

The achievement also aligns with the company's commitment to circular economic principles and a reduction of fossil-based virgin plastics in packaging.

Inteplast BOPP Films general manager and vice-president Paul Marquard said: “Inteplast BOPP Films is committed to embracing the principles of a circular economy, which will shape our operational procedures and product innovation.

“With our ISCC PLUS certification, we are equipped to provide cutting-edge recycling solutions that align with the objectives of packaging converters and consumer."

The company noted that it has trained all departments in the BOPP Films US-based plants, including sales, production, marketing, and procurement to implement these ISCC PLUS-certified standards.

Inteplast's BOPP plant in Quebec, Canada, is expected to achieve the certification by the second quarter of 2024.

The company's sustainability journey began more than 30 years ago at its flagship site in Texas.
