Koehler Paper, a developer of speciality paper for the packaging sector, has been selected by Italian organic pasta brand IRIS Bio for flexible pasta packaging paper.

This marks the first instance of pasta being packed in Koehler Paper's flexible packaging paper, NexPlus Seal Pure.

NexPlus Seal Pure is a heat-sealable paper designed to maximise shelf life and protect the contents within. It boasts superior strength properties, making it suitable for use on standard packaging machines.

Koehler Italia flexible packaging paper sales manager Mauro Moretti said: “With Koehler NexPlus Seal Pure we offer a packaging paper with a significantly reduced carbon footprint in comparison to conventional plastic packaging, not to mention that it also boasts the significant benefit of being recyclable and conserving valuable resources as a result.”

In March last year, Koehler Paper teamed up with Germany's nucao chocolate manufacturer to introduce a new sustainable chocolate packaging solution.

Named Koehler NexPlus Advanced, the flexible packaging paper, is said to offer better barrier properties against mineral oil, oxygen, and grease, making it ideal for various chocolate-coated fruit products.

The paper, described as fully recyclable, is compatible with both vertical and horizontal packaging machines.

The Koehler Paper team, together with researchers and developers from Koehler Innovation & Technology, has been fine-tuning Koehler NexPlus Advanced for use in horizontal packaging machines.
