US-based custom plastic company Jamestown Plastics has announced joining the global MedTech Network to offer an expanded range of packaging solutions to its customers.

The MedTech Network is a group of independent companies that provide products and services to the medical industry.

The latest collaboration will allow Jamestown Plastics to provide complete packaging equipment such as heat-sealing machines and sealing lids to its customers.

All of these solutions will come in addition to the company’s current light-gauge and heavy-gauge product range.

Jamestown Products CEO Jay Baker said: “Jamestown Plastics has been serving the needs of our medical market customers with a broad array of products for more than 30 years.

“Being part of the MedTech Network brings value-added benefits to our customers as we can now offer them an expanded range of products and services to meet their growing needs.”

Jamestown's MEDIPACKER TS in particular has been designed to offer enhanced control when sealing preformed trays or blisters using die-cut lids, which are made of medical paper or compound foil, referred to as Tyvek.

MEDIPACKER TS was developed in Switzerland to address the specific needs of the medical industry to deliver a compact and durable solution that can be used in any cleanroom down to ISO Class 5 standards.

Jamestown Products will demonstrate these MEDIPACKER machines during the upcoming Advanced Manufacturing Minneapolis industry event in Minnesota, US.

Scheduled to take place between 10 and 11 October this year, this event alone will combine five different showcases - Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M), MinnPack, Automation Technology Expo, Design & Manufacturing Minneapolis, and Plastec.

Baker added: “We have been solving customers’ problems with innovative approaches to product design, engineering, and production since 1958 and we are excited to continue to expand our reach in the medical market.

“We look forward to introducing MEDIPACKER to both current and future customers at MD&M/MinnPack!”

Understanding the role and impact of the metaverse in the packaging sector

Many of the vital metaverse technologies are already being used or piloted by packaging companies, who have brought together AI, AR, VR, cloud, the IoT, and other technologies to monitor and maintain key assets remotely. The sector could also use immersive metaverse solutions to optimize packaging design and quality control—testing prototypes in a virtual world before bringing them to market. Another disruptive benefit will involve using underlying blockchain and digital twin technologies to assist in creating more transparent and traceable supply chains.
