Family-owned business Kiilto has partnered with packaging recycling app Bower to launch a recycling incentive programme in Finland.

From this month, consumers can claim rewards for recycling Kiilto’s consumer product packaging through the app.

The company’s product packaging, including brands such as Erisan, Serto, and Linna, can now be scanned into the Bower app.

Once the packaging is taken to a recycling point and sorted, consumers can confirm their location in the app to earn points.

These points can be converted into cash, coupons, or donated to charity.

This initiative aligns with Kiilto's environmental goals and offers its consumers tangible benefits for their eco-friendly actions.

Kiilto consumer goods' business area director Antero Kivioja said: “Our cooperation with Bower feels natural, as both companies aim to be pioneers in environmental responsibility.

“Kiilto is doing everything it can to contribute to its ambitious environmental goals. The responsibility for the product lies with the manufacturer, and we strive to help consumers recycle packaging correctly in many ways, including clear recycling instructions on packaging and on our website.”

The Bower app, with approximately 580,000 users across the Nordic countries, facilitates the aforementioned recycling process and rewards system.

The partnership is expected to enhance consumer engagement in recycling, as Kiilto’s survey indicates that 38% of laundry detergent buyers prioritise sustainability.

However, consumers often struggle to evaluate the responsibility of products and their manufacturers, in terms of safety, effectiveness, and recyclability.

Non-Alcoholic Beverages Packaging Industry Dynamics

In 2022, the soft drinks sector held the largest non-alcoholic beverages packaging market share, while the hot drinks sector is forecasted to register the fastest growth during 2022–27. Rigid plastics are usually a preferred choice in the non-alcoholic beverages industry because of their portability, convenience, and lightweight nature that facilitate on-the-go consumption.
