Kraton, a global speciality polymers producer, has received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification for its manufacturing facility in Belpre, Ohio, US.
This certification enables the site to produce up to 100% ISCC PLUS-certified renewable Styrenic Block Copolymers under the CirKular+ ReNew Series through a mass balance approach.
The Belpre facility's certification complements Kraton's existing ISCC PLUS-certified facility in Berre, France, which achieved its certification in 2021.
The CirKular+ ReNew Series, which includes ISCC PLUS-certified renewable polymers, represents an expansion of Kraton's solutions designed to support the circular economy.
The ReNew Series offers products with up to 100% certified renewable content, utilising butadiene, styrene, and isoprene.
This enables customers to implement the mass balance approach to produce renewable products, thereby reducing their carbon footprint, including biogenic carbon, compared to fossil-based alternatives.
Kraton Global strategic marketing and product management VP Pedro Lopes said: "The certification of the Belpre site is an exciting milestone that further reinforces Kraton's commitment to the circular economy and offers customers sustainable, innovative solutions.
“Bringing local ISCC PLUS supply options to our customers will support their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and increase the use of renewable materials across multiple end uses."
The ISCC certification system is recognised by an independent multistakeholder initiative.
Its mass balance approach tracks the flow of recycled or biobased raw materials within the value chain.
The CirKular+ product line was launched in 2020. It takes a comprehensive approach to product life cycle management.
