Flexible transport packaging provider LC Packaging has reported a notable increase in 2023 sales from its circular economy packaging, accounting for 23% of its turnover.

This marks a substantial rise from 17% in 2022, driven by an expanded range of recyclable packaging options, which now represent 70% of the total.

The company expects circular packaging to generate at least 80% of turnover by 2030.

In 2023, the company said that it distributed 508 million pieces of packaging, which is a slight decrease from 512 million in 2022.

This reduction led to lower material usage, with 66.3 million kilograms used in 2023, down from 72.2 million kilograms in the previous year.

LC Packaging's product distribution in 2023 included more than 28 million kilograms of cardboard, three million kilograms of jute, and 34 million kilograms of plastics.

The company has also reported that 48% of the materials used in 2023 were renewable, contributing to 35% of turnover from packaging made from renewable materials.

In addition, 32% of the materials used were recycled content materials and 38% of distributed products included recycled content materials.

The recyclability of distributed packaging improved significantly, with 70% being recyclable, a 17% increase from 2022 and a 31% increase from 2021.

LC Packaging also made strides in reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, achieving a 20.6% reduction in 2023 from its value chain compared to the base year of 2021, representing a 12.8% decrease from 2022.

The company reported an 11.7% decrease in scope 1 emissions and a 33.2% increase in scope 2 emissions.

Looking forward, LC Packaging commits to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 from the base year of 2021.

The company also aims to cut scope 3 emissions by the same percentage within the same timeframe.
