UK-based Lindum Packaging has developed a double-handed pallet wrap dispenser for improved worker health and safety.
Pallet wrap is a stretchable plastic film used in warehouses and distribution centres to package items being stored or transported.
Using Lindum’s solution, operators can walk forward when wrapping a pallet, avoiding the potential trip hazard caused by traditional hand wrap dispensers which are used when walking backwards around a pallet.
The dispenser has been independently tested for its ergonomic and orthopaedic properties.
The film designed to be used with the dispenser is pre-stretched, removing the need for manual tension from the body weight and strain of the operator. Instead, the tension of the pallet wrap can be adjusted using the handle with the wrist in a neutral position whilst wrapping a pallet. This aims to ensure consistently wrapped, stable pallets and reduce plastic waste.
The steel dispenser, which weighs 1.5kg, also features a quick reload mechanism to save time when replenishing the roll of film.
Lindum sales director Rick Sellars explained: “Traditional wrapping methods pose health and safety risks, including back strain, friction burns and tripping. Our dispenser has not only been designed to solve these problems but also addresses the pitfalls of the current dispensers on the market.”
Lindum Packaging is based in Stallingborough near Grimsby, and provides pallet stability testing, sustainable packaging products and consultancy.
